What is Hard Chrome Plating?

Hard chromium plating is chrome plating that has been applied as a fairly heavy coating (usually measured in thousandths of an inch) for wear resistance, lubricity, oil retention, and other wear resistance purposes. Some examples would be hydraulic cylinder rods, rollers, and piston rings.

Hard Chrome Plating is used almost exclusively on the surface of hydraulic cylinder rods. Having the ability to remove old chrome, resurface and re-plate your cylinder rods is cost effective and maintains the integrity of the original equipment.

There are variations of hard chrome plating, with some of the coatings optimized to be especially porous for oil retention, etc.
